Living in Southern California, I feel like I am always late to experience autumn and all the beautiful colors it brings. To remedy this, the Eastern Sierra Nevada has been a favorite fall destination for me. Last year I was so excited to show Kim and the girls some of my favorite fall locations. Our first morning I took them to one of my favorite canyons and the aspens were gorgeous, just starting to turn color. “Aspens in Morning Reflected Light” came from that incredible morning. It was one of my favorite images from 2023 and is also the October image in my new calendar on sale now.
In addition to all the beautiful fall colors, I introduced my family to the wonderfully unique Mono Lake and its tufas. I was shocked to see how high the lake was due to all the snow we had the previous winter. As a result, there were far fewer tufas visible on the lake, but I’d gladly trade that for a fuller lake.
You can see more highlights from our family trip through the Eastern Sierra in this gallery. If you’d like a print of “Aspens in Morning Reflected Light” it’s currently 20% off in my Etsy shop.
