Winter in Tehachapi

Tule Fog

If you asked me 15 years ago to point to Tehachapi on a map of California, I would have gotten it completely wrong. As a lifelong resident of Southern California, I had heard the name but knew very little about the town. That has changed now that I have family there, and I have had ample opportunities to explore this beautiful mountain range separating the Mojave Desert and the San Joaquin Valley. It’s one of the few places you can get the true winter experience in the southern part of the state.

I thought it fitting to start my 2027 Calendar Image posts with a nice wintery scene as I swelter writing this post in 100-degree heat at the beginning of October. This past winter, the tule fog of the Central Valley was thick enough to creep into Tehachapi and made for this wondrous scene during my visit in January.

A few weeks earlier, I spied this canvas of frozen oak leaves, with one lone yellow leaf standing in the sea of brown.

I created a complete gallery of my favorite winter images from Tehachapi here.
